Northumbrian Water Group is the 25th Best Workplace in the UK

Northumbrian Water Group has been ranked 25th place on the 2021 UK’s Best Workplaces™ list for companies of our size, published yesterday by Great Place to Work® UK, and is the only water and sewerage company to make the list for the Super Large organisations category.

The result reflects the feedback from employees in a company-wide survey that was conducted in November 2020. A staggering 86% of Northumbrian Water Group’s 3,000 plus employees across Essex, Suffolk and the North East took part in the Great Place to Work® survey, which measures employee engagement across a range of factors, including wellbeing, pay and benefits, personal growth and leadership.

Some of the key findings include:

·       81% of people feel good about the ways we contribute to the community

·       92% of respondents agree people here are treated fairly regardless of their race or ethnic origin

·       87% of people feel that we have a strong safety culture.

Being ranked 25th on the UK’s Best Workplaces™ list for 2021 follows recent accolades such as being identified as a Centre of Excellence for Wellbeing 2020-21 by the Great Place to Work Institute, as well as being awarded Ambassador Status as part of the 2020 Better Health at Work Award assessment process.

Chief Executive Heidi Mottram CBE said:

“To receive recognition as a wellbeing ambassador in light of our long-standing commitment to, and outstanding delivery of, workplace health and wellbeing, truly demonstrates our commitment to our employees, who are at the heart of everything we do and something we feel very passionate about.

“We pride ourselves on providing excellent rewards and benefits for our employees as well as fantastic financial wellbeing support. Our people have also benefitted from our health and wellbeing resources during a really difficult period, for example free flu jabs, GP and counselling services and our ‘Living Well’ platform that all employees can access.

“Keeping our people connected digitally throughout this time – wherever they carry out their work – has been imperative in ensuring great health and wellbeing in the business and the launch of our internal ‘Living Well’ platform in November has played a crucial role in this. In addition to this, we have been able to use our creativity to introduce a brand new and innovative live Q&A channel to keep the conversation with our leadership team and employees going.

“Another key part of what makes us a ‘great place to work’ is enabling employees to support our local communities through our long standing and highly successful employee volunteering programme – Just an hour. During the last year, 553 of our people used work time to support 230 organisations, through our Just an hour scheme.

In addition to this more than 70 of our people are volunteering to support the NHS with the vaccination rollout in the North East. We have also provided our Boldon House office building in Pity Me to be used for the Arnison Vaccination Centre for Durham.”
