Northumbrian Water Chief Executive Heidi Mottram has received another honour, this time in the form of an Honorary Doctorate from Teesside University.
Heidi joined more than 3,000 Teesside University graduates as they celebrated their academic achievements in five days of celebrations that included 13 ceremonies.
Having recently received a CBE in the latest Queens Birthday Honours, for her services to the water industry and business community, Heidi was given an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from the university.
Also honoured was actress Monica Dolan, best known for her role in the BBC’s W1A, who was made Doctor of Arts.
Heidi has been the Chief Executive Officer of Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) since 2010, before which she had an excellent track record in the rail industry, progressing through a variety of senior leadership roles.
In 2016 she was selected to be the Prince of Wales’ Business Ambassador to the North East, in conjunction with Business in the Community. In the same year she was also named North East Business Executive of the Year recognising her significant contribution to business in the North East.
Under her leadership NWG achieved the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2014 and has been the only water company on the World’s Most Ethical companies list seven years in a row. In the last year, the Company has also been named as Utility Company of the Year and Water Company of the Year 2018, as well as being awarded the British Quality Foundation’s UK Excellence Award 2018.
Heidi said: “It’s a fantastic honour to receive this recognition from Teesside University, which is a fantastic institution. While I am personally very proud of this award, it’s another reflection of the fantastic team that I have around me at all levels throughout Northumbrian Water Group, who allow me the privilege to lead them to do amazing things and keep essential services flowing for millions of customers.”
Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Teesside University, Professor Paul Croney, said: “As a hugely successful leader, both in running one of the region’s best-known, multi-award winning companies and her high-level involvement and influence in the wider business community, Heidi is an excellent role model for our students and graduates. She has shown how hard work, dedication and achievement pays off. Her success will no doubt inspire all those who are graduating throughout the week. Teesside University is delighted to confer an Honorary Degree upon Heidi.”
