The Institute of Water has submitted its response to the Cunliffe Review, led by the Independent Water Commission, highlighting the critical importance of investing in people, skills and professional standards across the water sector.
As the only professional body open to anyone working in water, the Institute’s response reflects the views and experiences of members working at all levels across the UK industry. It reinforces the message that a professional, well-trained, values-led and sustainable workforce is essential if the sector is to rise to current and future challenges—whether that’s improving resilience, delivering innovation or restoring trust.
The submission calls for stronger focus on workforce development as a shared priority for regulators, government, and employers. It also sets out practical steps to attract and retain talent, close skills gaps and promote ethical, professional standards at all levels of the workforce.
