Fellow Member
Fellow Membership is awarded to people who have served well in an eminent position in the Institute of Water or who have attained an exceptional level of proficiency in their field.
Becoming a Fellow Member
There are two routes to apply to become a Fellow of the Institute of Water:
- Transfer (if you have been a Corporate Member for five years or more);
- Direct Entry

Transferring your membership
If you have been a Corporate Member of the Institute of Water for five years or more and wish to upgrade to Fellow Member, you can do so by transfer.
Please send the documentation outlined in section 3.1 of the Fellow Application Guidance by email to membership@instituteofwater.org.uk or by post to Institute of Water, 4 Carlton Court, Team Valley, Gateshead, NE11 0AZ.
If you are joining the Institute of Water
If you are not yet a member of the Institute of Water and would like to join as a Fellow Member, simply complete the Online Application Form and upload the requested documents outlined in the Fellow Application Guidance.
All applications will be assessed by our Professional Standards Committee which meets four times a year. Fellow Membership is also available through nomination by Area Committees, our Professional Panels, or our Board.
Benefits of being a Fellow
Being recognized as a Fellow is an honor that acknowledges an individual’s significant contributions and expertise in their field. It enhances professional credibility, providing a sense of pride and recognition for hard work and dedication.
Successful applicants will also be eligible to use the post nominals FIWater, which can be a valuable asset for career advancement and job opportunities.
