As you will be aware, the 21st International Water Association Young Water Professionals Conference that was due to be hosted in Cardiff between 15th and 17th April has been postponed until next year. We are finalising the details of this and so please keep an eye on your emails as further information will be released soon. I would also like to remind you that four of our keynote speakers that had been due to present at the conference this year will be delivering their presentations next week via webinar. Details can be found here: https://www.instituteofwater.org.uk/events-info/?id=1201.
This year, we will be running an online poster competition instead. This will be open to any Young Water Professional who would like to take part.
The #IWAPoster Twitter Competition will be an online event held entirely over Twitter to bring members of the IWA YWP research community together to share their research, network and engage in scientific debate.
If interested, please tweet your poster with the hashtag #IWAPoster between 12pm BST Thu 28th May 2020 and 12pm BST Fri 29th May 2020. During this 24hr period, be sure to ask and answer lots of questions among your fellow YWPs to ensure your work is well understood and to make sure you get the most out of the event. Make sure to include the hashtag #IWAPoster in all of your questions and replies, as well as your name and organisation.
Your poster should be accessible in that people from different areas and backgrounds are able to understand it, while also communicating your high quality innovative research. You can choose the dimensions of your poster, just ensure that the text and any figures are clear for people to read and understand. This is your opportunity to showcase the work that you do and your research to a vast audience.
There will be two prizes awarded:
- Best Poster: awarded for the content, accessibility and design of your poster. The winner will win the 2020 Water Engineering Award Medal kindly sponsored by the Engineers Trust of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. This is presented at their Annual Awards Dinner and details of last year’s winner (and the other Awards) can be found at this link: https://engineerstrust.org.uk/index.php/award/#water-engineering-award
- Best Interaction: awarded for the poster that stimulates the greatest online audience participation. The winner will win a complimentary place at the IWater National Conference in September 2020.
We are delighted to announce that our master judging panel for Best Poster includes Ben Tam (Managing Director of Isle Utilities in the UK and Chair of the IWA UK Committee), Dr Marie Whaley (Senior Associate at Arup and IWA Board Member and Treasurer) and Lynn Cooper (Chief Executive of the Institute of Water).
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch at: iwaukywp@gmail.com

Kindest regards,
Kirstin.
